Beccy:

I am the Project Co-ordinator at Pennine Mencap. You will often find me in midst of all activities; planning, organising, and making sure everyone feels welcome at Pennine Mencap.
I began volunteering at Pennine Mencap in 2015 alongside my studies. As soon as I graduated, I knew I wanted to put more of my time into the charity. Now, I work here! Except it doesn’t feel like work. I get to spend my week singing, dancing, painting, playing games and learning new things from the most inspiring group of people! I always tell people that I have the BEST job in the whole world.

In my spare time, I like to keep just as busy. I enjoy spending time in nature, exploring new places, eating out, and of course spending time with family and friends.

Hi! I’m the Activity Coordinator here at Pennine Mencap. I started here in March 2023 and have loved every minute since! I take a lead on all performing arts sessions, like Rhodes Bank Choir and Stage Right Performing Arts Group. In 2018, I went to university and gained a BA Hons in Musical Theatre. Before I came to Mencap, I worked for a care group as a Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coordinator for people with highly complex needs.

I have a passion for the application of theatre and the arts and love making theatre accessible for all. This job is amazing, I get to do all of that, whilst singing and dancing my way through the day with the best bunch of service users!

When I’m not at ‘work’ if you can call it that, you’ll find me at rehearsals warbling my way through life!

I am Pennine Mencap’s Communications Officer, which involves blog writing, social media planning and posting, and handling general incoming and outgoing communications for PM. I’m a passionate writer and have a love for creating content in various formats, which goes hand in hand with my role here. I assist in various other duties here, which can be anything from helping with cookalong to hauling plasterboard upstairs. I’ve certainly never had a job like this before!

Outside of Pennine Mencap, you can usually catch me at a gig in Manchester or watching Leeds United losing somewhere! I am also a music journalist, where I review records, live shows and festivals.

I absolutely love that I get to call this my job, when I spend the day dancing, acting and arts and crafting with an amazing group of people.

Elliot Sparks:

I’m the chairperson and one of the founding trustees of Pennine Mencap. I discovered my passion for volunteering to support individuals with learning disabilities and autism over 15 years ago, and I’m pleased to say it has never diminished!

The main quality I bring to the charity is drive and ambition to keep improving what Pennine Mencap is, expanding what it does and growing our relationships with the community we exist to support. The challenges experienced by our service users constantly change, and it’s our duty to evolve to meet their needs.

I enjoy nothing more than representing the charity by singing alongside the Rhodes Bank Choir, devising recipes and leading our weekly Cookalong, or darting about at Friday Night Club and other social activities, where you’ll find me getting beaten at pool and having a laugh with our service users. I am also immensely proud of the work we have done to refurbish Rhodes Bank Chambers into a unique hub of activity.

As a jack-of-all-trades I can feel a bit restless behind a desk, and don’t like taking myself too seriously. However I also understand the importance of spending much of my time working on funding applications, helping to develop project ideas, advocating for service users in crisis and ensuring the charity meets its compliance requirements. I also bring the experience and knowledge acquired having operated a CQC registered care provider and staffing agency for over 10 years.

Paul Stock:

I’m one of the founding trustees of Pennine Mencap, and bring to the charity my long experience as a solicitor and business owner.

Professionally I have specialised in commercial law, business law, company and corporate law for over 35 years, as well as having a long-standing interest in supporting, advising and assisting with the governance of charities. I’m motivated by the principles of fairness and equity, and believe it is vital these values should continue to be robustly applied to the charity’s operations.

While I live and work locally, I spend as much time as possible in France, enjoying my passions of skiing in winter and hiking in the summer months. I also speak fluent French and (almost!) fluent Hebrew.
